PSEB Class 10th and 12th 2025-26: Everything You Need to Know
The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB), headquartered at Vidya Bhawan, Phase-8, SAS Nagar (Mohali), is the premier state board governing secondary and senior secondary education in Punjab. Established in 1969, PSEB is responsible for conducting the Matric (Class 10) and Senior Secondary (Class 12) board examinations for over 5 lakh students across all districts of Punjab every year. The board also conducts examinations for Class 5 and Class 8, and manages affiliated schools across Government, Government-aided, and private segments.
For the 2025-26 academic session, PSEB released the date sheet early on December 30, 2025, giving students ample time to plan. The Class 12 exams are currently underway from February 17 to April 4, 2026, while the Class 10 exams run from March 6 to April 1, 2026. Both Classes 10 and 12 practical exams were completed before the theory exams — between February 2 and February 12, 2026 for Class 12, and from January 27 to February 4, 2026 for Class 10. This early completion of practicals allows students to focus fully on theory preparation.
In a significant update, PSEB has revised the Class 12 date sheet for 2026 — the Chemistry paper, originally scheduled for April 4, has been preponed to March 20, 2026. Students must ensure they follow only the latest revised timetable. This comprehensive guide covers everything: the complete revised timetable, admit card process, full syllabus, revised exam pattern, passing criteria, result dates, and expert preparation strategies — all in one place.

PSEB 2025-26 – Key Updates and Important Changes
There are several critical updates for the 2025-26 session that every PSEB student must know:
- Class 12 Chemistry Paper Preponed: In the revised date sheet released on January 8, 2026, PSEB moved the Class 12 Chemistry paper from its originally scheduled date of April 4, 2026 to March 20, 2026. Students who prepared their schedule based on the original timetable must update their study plan accordingly.
- Competency-Based Education in Exam Pattern: PSEB has shifted focus to competency-based learning for 2026. Approximately 50% of questions in Class 12 papers now test conceptual understanding through MCQs, case-based questions, and source-based integrated questions. Rote memorization alone is no longer sufficient.
- Earlier Date Sheet Release: PSEB released the 2025-26 date sheet on December 30, 2025 — earlier than the January 8, 2025 release for the previous session — giving students more preparation time.
- Practical Exams Before Theory: Class 12 practical exams (February 2–12, 2026) and Class 10 practical exams (January 27 to February 4, 2026) are both completed before the theory exams begin. This change allows students to focus exclusively on written exam preparation.
- Divyang Students: Students with disabilities receive 20 extra minutes for every hour of examination. These students should contact their school principal for accommodations well before the exam date.
- Vocational and NSQF Subjects: Vocational theory exams are scheduled between February 19 and April 1, 2026. On-the-job training for NSQF subjects is conducted at the school level within 7 days of the corresponding theory exam.
- PSEB Introduces External Exams for Classes 6, 7, 9 and 11: As part of its examination reforms, PSEB has announced plans to introduce external examinations for Classes 6, 7, 9, and 11 as well — a significant step toward comprehensive board assessment from lower classes.

The PSEB Class 10 (Matric) theory exams are being conducted from March 6 to April 1, 2026. All examinations are held in a single morning shift from 11:00 AM to 2:15 PM. Students must arrive at the examination centre at least 30 minutes before the exam starts. An additional 15 minutes of reading time is provided before writing begins. The Class 10 exam begins with Social Science on March 6 and concludes with Physical Education on April 1.
Class 10 students in PSEB choose 8 subjects in total — 6 from Group A (compulsory academic subjects) and 2 from Group B (elective / language / vocational). Below is the subject-wise date sheet:

Important notes for Class 10 timetable: The Class 10 exam begins approximately 17 days after Class 12, giving Class 10 students extra preparation time. The order of subjects is designed with adequate gaps between major subjects like Mathematics (March 11) and Science (March 14). Punjabi is the compulsory first language for all PSEB students; students who do not know Punjabi may opt for Punjab History and Culture instead. NSQF/Vocational theory exams are scheduled within the March 25–April 1 window. Students should download the official PSEB Class 10 date sheet PDF from pseb.ac.in and verify their specific subject codes.
PSEB Class 12th Date Sheet 2026 (Revised) – Subject-wise Schedule for All Streams
The PSEB Class 12 (Senior Secondary) theory exams run from February 17 to April 4, 2026. All papers are held in the morning shift from 11:00 AM to 2:15 PM. Note the critical revision: Chemistry has been moved from April 4 to March 20, 2026. Students must follow the revised date sheet (released January 8, 2026) — not the original December 30, 2025 schedule. The timetable covers Science, Commerce, and Arts streams together.
Date | Subject(s) – All Streams |
February 17, 2026 | Entrepreneurship / Beauty & Wellness / Other Vocational (1st Day) |
February 19, 2026 | Physics (Science) / History (Arts) / Business Studies (Commerce) |
February 21, 2026 | Punjabi – A / Punjab History and Culture |

Stream-specific notes: Science students should note that the three most challenging subjects — Physics (Feb 19), Mathematics (Feb 26), and Chemistry (March 20) — are now spread across the exam period, giving significant preparation time between each. Biology is on March 6. Commerce students have Business Studies (Feb 19), Accountancy (Feb 24), Mathematics (Feb 26), and Economics (March 2) — a strong cluster at the start. Arts students have History (Feb 19), Political Science (Feb 24), Geography (Feb 26), and Sociology/Economics (March 2).
Always download the official PSEB Class 12 revised date sheet PDF from pseb.ac.in for exact subject codes. Minor revisions may occasionally be announced — follow PSEB’s official notifications on their website and social media handles for any further changes.
PSEB Practical Exams 2025-26 – Class 10th and 12th
Completing all practical examinations before the theory exams is a major feature of the PSEB 2025-26 session. This approach reduces examination stress and allows students to focus entirely on theory preparation.
PSEB Class 10 Practical Exams 2026
- Practical exams conducted: January 27 to February 4, 2026
- Location: Respective schools under the supervision of school teachers
- Subjects with practicals: Science, Computer Science/IT, Home Science, Physical Education (NSQF), Music, Drawing & Fine Arts
- Marks distribution: Theory 80 marks + Internal/Practical 20 marks = 100 marks total
- Students must score 33% in the internal/practical component separately
- On-the-job training for NSQF: Conducted by school teachers within 7 days of the corresponding theory exam
PSEB Class 12 Practical Exams 2026
- Practical exams conducted: February 2 to February 12, 2026
- Two daily shifts: Morning (10:00 AM to 1:00 PM) and Afternoon (1:30 PM to 4:30 PM)
- Location: Respective schools or designated centres under external examiner supervision
- Science practicals: Physics (70+30), Chemistry (70+30), Biology (70+30), Computer Science (70+30)

- Practical records/project files must be submitted at the time of the practical exam
Key reminder: Students who missed their practical exams without valid board-approved reasons will be awarded zero marks in that component. There is no provision for a re-practical exam except in exceptional board-approved cases. Students must preserve copies of their practical records and project files until the result is fully settled. Schools are responsible for conducting practicals under the PSEB-prescribed guidelines and for submitting practical marks to the board within the deadline.
PSEB Admit Card 2026 – Class 10th and 12th
The PSEB Admit Card 2026 for both Class 10 and Class 12 is issued through schools approximately one week before the exam commencement. Individual students cannot download the admit card themselves from the PSEB website — only school heads are authorized to access and download the admit cards using school login credentials.
How Schools Download the PSEB Admit Card 2026
- Step 1: School head or designated examination coordinator visits pseb.ac.in
- Step 2: Login using the school’s official username and password
- Step 3: Navigate to the Admit Card section for Class 10 or Class 12 (Session 2025-26)
- Step 4: Download and print the batch admit cards for all eligible registered students
- Step 5: Apply the official school stamp and principal’s signature on each admit card
- Step 6: Distribute the signed and stamped admit cards to students before the first exam date
Details Printed on the PSEB Admit Card 2026
- Student name, roll number, and recent photograph
- Father’s name and mother’s name
- Date of birth and gender
- School name, school code, and district
- Examination centre name, centre code, and complete address
- Subject-wise exam dates and timings
- Reporting time (at least 30 minutes before start)

Students must carry the printed, signed, and stamped admit card to every exam — both theory and practical. A photocopy, soft copy, or mobile phone screenshot is NOT accepted at the examination centre under any circumstances. Students can also carry their school identity card or Aadhaar card as additional identification. If any error is found on the admit card — including wrong photograph, incorrect name spelling, wrong date of birth, missing subject, or incorrect roll number — the student must immediately inform their school principal. The school will then report the discrepancy to PSEB for correction. Students without a valid admit card will be denied entry to the examination hall.
PSEB Exam Pattern 2025-26 – Class 10th and 12th (Revised)
PSEB has revised its examination pattern for 2025-26 to align with competency-based education principles. Understanding the updated pattern is fundamental to scoring well:

Important note on the competency-based pattern: The shift to 50% competency-based questions means that students who only memorise answers will struggle. Questions are now framed around understanding, application, and analysis. Students must understand the ‘why’ and ‘how’ behind concepts — not just recall facts. Practising PSEB sample papers 2025-26 and the official question bank is the most effective way to prepare for this format.

PSEB Passing Marks and Grading System 2025-26
Understanding the minimum passing criteria is critical for every PSEB 2026 student. Here is the complete breakdown:
Criteria | Requirement |
Minimum Marks in Each Subject | 33% (i.e., 33 out of 100 marks) |
Overall Aggregate Requirement | 33% across all subjects |
Theory Component (80-mark papers) | Minimum 26 marks out of 80 (33%) |
Theory Component (70-mark papers) | Minimum 23 marks out of 70 (33%) |
Internal / Practical Component (20 marks) | Minimum 7 marks out of 20 (33%) |
Practical Component (30 marks – Science) | Minimum 10 marks out of 30 (33%) |
Both Components Mandatory | Cannot compensate low theory with high practical marks |
Supplementary Exam Eligibility | Students failing in any subject(s) in the main exam |
Divyang Students (Disability) | Same passing criteria; extra time as accommodation |
PSEB Grading / Division System 2025-26
Percentage Range | Division / Grade |
75% and above | Distinction |
60% – 74.99% | First Division |
45% – 59.99% | Second Division |
33% – 44.99% | Third Division / Pass |
Below 33% | Fail |
In 2025, the PSEB Class 10 result was outstanding — a pass percentage of 95.61% was recorded, with student Akshnoor topping the board and 3 students obtaining full marks. The PSEB Class 12 result 2025 was declared on May 14, 2025. PSEB consistently achieves high pass rates thanks to its strong examination framework and teacher support systems.
The 33% separate minimum in both theory and practical (for subjects with a practical component) is strictly enforced. A student scoring 90% in practicals but below 33% in theory will still be considered a fail in that subject and must appear for the supplementary exam.
PSEB Result 2026 – Class 10th and 12th
The PSEB Result 2026 for both Class 10 and Class 12 is expected to be declared in May 2026. In 2025, the Class 12 result was released on May 14, 2025, and the Class 10 result followed shortly after. Results are available through multiple channels simultaneously.

PSEB Class 10th and 12th 2025-26 – Expert Preparation Tips
With Class 12 exams currently underway (February 17 – April 4) and Class 10 exams ongoing (March 6 – April 1, 2026), every remaining exam day matters. Here are eight evidence-based strategies to help you score your best:
1. Adapt to the Competency-Based Exam Pattern
The most important change for 2026: approximately 50% of Class 12 questions now test conceptual understanding through MCQs, case-based questions, and source-based integrated questions. Rote memorisation is no longer sufficient. Focus on understanding each concept deeply — ask yourself ‘why’ and ‘how’ as you study, not just ‘what’.
2. Practice the Official PSEB Question Bank and Sample Papers
PSEB releases an official question bank featuring case-study questions for all subjects. This is the most accurate preview of the actual exam format. Download it from pseb.ac.in. Also download all available PSEB model test papers 2025-26 for each subject. Practise them under real exam conditions — 3 hours, 11:00 AM to 2:15 PM. Review the marking scheme (MS) alongside your answers.
3. Review the Revised Date Sheet – Especially Chemistry
The single most critical update: Class 12 Chemistry has been moved from April 4 to March 20, 2026. Students who planned Chemistry preparation for the April slot must immediately revise their schedule. Use the extra inter-exam gap between Chemistry (March 20) and the April exams for revision of any remaining subjects.
4. Solve PSEB Previous Year Question Papers (5–10 Years)
Solving the last 5–10 years of PSEB board papers remains one of the most effective preparation tools. It builds familiarity with the question format, highlights frequently tested topics, and improves time management within the 3-hour limit. Pay special attention to the Topper’s Answer Sheet published on the PSEB website — it shows exactly how to present answers for maximum marks.
5. Use NCERT Textbooks as Your Foundation
For Science, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Political Science, Geography, Economics, and Sociology, NCERT textbooks are the primary source. For Physics and Mathematics, also work through NCERT Exemplar problems for application-based and case-study type questions. For Punjabi, Hindi, and English, use PSEB-prescribed textbooks and literature readers.
6. Master the Objective / MCQ Section
Both Class 10 and Class 12 papers now include a significant MCQ component. These questions are fast to answer and do not require long writing — but they demand conceptual clarity and precision. Practise MCQs from every chapter. For Class 12, assertion-reason and case-based MCQs have been added — practise these specifically using the PSEB question bank.
7. Leverage Inter-Exam Gaps Strategically
PSEB has built useful preparation gaps into the timetable. Use these gaps purposefully. For Class 12 Science: Physics (Feb 19) → use Feb 20-25 for Mathematics revision → Mathematics (Feb 26) → use Feb 27-Mar 5 for Biology revision → Biology (March 6) → use March 7-19 for Chemistry revision → Chemistry (March 20). Plan each gap day in advance with specific study goals.
8. Follow Every Exam Day Protocol
Arrive at the examination centre at least 30 minutes before start. Use the 15-minute reading time to scan all questions and plan your answer sequence. Attempt the questions you know best first — this builds momentum and ensures maximum marks from confident attempts. Use coloured pencils for diagrams in Science, Economics, and Geography. Never use a calculator or mobile phone — these are strictly prohibited. Write clearly with blue or black ink. Carry your admit card and school ID or Aadhaar card to every exam.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – PSEB Class 10th and 12th 2025-26
Q1. When are the PSEB Class 10 and Class 12 exams in 2025-26?
The PSEB Class 10 (Matric) theory exams are being held from March 6 to April 1, 2026. The PSEB Class 12 (Senior Secondary) theory exams run from February 17 to April 4, 2026. Both use a single morning shift from 11:00 AM to 2:15 PM. Practical exams were completed before the theory exams — Class 10 practicals from January 27 to February 4, and Class 12 practicals from February 2 to February 12, 2026.
Q2. Has the PSEB Class 12 timetable 2026 been revised? What changed?
Yes. PSEB released a revised Class 12 date sheet on January 8, 2026. The key change is that the Chemistry paper, originally scheduled for April 4, 2026, has been preponed to March 20, 2026. All other subject dates remain as per the original December 30, 2025 timetable. Students must download and follow only the revised date sheet from pseb.ac.in.
Q3. How do students get the PSEB admit card 2026?
The PSEB admit card 2026 is issued through schools approximately one week before the exams. Only school heads are authorized to download the admit card from pseb.ac.in using school login credentials. After downloading, the school signs, stamps, and distributes the admit cards to students. Individual students cannot download the admit card directly. Students must carry the printed, signed, and stamped admit card to every exam — a soft copy or photocopy is not accepted.
Q4. What are the minimum passing marks for PSEB Class 10 and 12 in 2026?
Students must score a minimum of 33% in each individual subject to pass PSEB 2026. For 80-mark theory papers, the minimum is 26 marks; for 70-mark papers (Science subjects in Class 12), the minimum is 23 marks. For the 20-mark internal assessment, the minimum is 7 marks; for 30-mark practicals, the minimum is 10 marks. Both theory and practical components must be passed separately — high marks in one cannot compensate for failure in the other.
Q5. When will the PSEB Result 2026 be declared?
The PSEB Class 10 and Class 12 results 2026 are expected in May 2026. In 2025, the Class 12 result was declared on May 14, 2025, with a 95.61% pass rate for Class 10. Results can be checked at pseb.ac.in, indiaresults.com, and through DigiLocker using the roll number. Supplementary exams for students who fail are expected in July–August 2026.
Q6. What is the new exam pattern for PSEB Class 12 in 2026?
PSEB has shifted to a competency-based examination pattern for Class 12 in 2025-26. Approximately 50% of questions now test conceptual understanding through MCQs, case-based questions, and source-based integrated questions. This shift emphasises application and analysis over memorisation. Students must practise from the official PSEB question bank, model test papers, and previous year papers to succeed in this revised format.
Q7. How many students appear for PSEB Class 10 and 12 exams?
Approximately 2.8 lakh students appear for the PSEB Class 10 (Matric) exams in 2026, while approximately 2.5 lakh students are expected for the Class 12 exams. PSEB is affiliated with over 9,000 schools across Punjab — including more than 5,600 Government schools, 454 Government-aided schools, and over 3,100 unaided private schools.
Conclusion
The PSEB Class 10th and 12th 2025-26 board examinations are a defining academic milestone for over 5 lakh students across Punjab. With Class 12 exams running until April 4, 2026, and Class 10 concluding on April 1, 2026, there are still key papers ahead for many students. The most important update to remember: Class 12 Chemistry has been preponed to March 20, 2026 — update your preparation schedule accordingly.
Focus on the revised competency-based exam pattern, especially for Class 12 — understanding concepts, practising case-based MCQs from the official PSEB question bank, and reviewing the Topper’s Answer Sheet will give you a decisive edge. For Class 10, cover the complete NCERT syllabus, practise previous year papers, and use every inter-exam gap strategically.
