MPBSE Class 10th and 12th 2025-26: Everything You Need to Know
The Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE), also known as the MP Board or Madhya Pradesh Board, is one of India’s largest and most significant state education boards. Based in Bhopal, MPBSE governs and conducts board examinations for Class 10th (High School Certificate – HSC) and Class 12th (Higher Secondary School Certificate – HSSC) for millions of students across all 52 districts of Madhya Pradesh every year.
For the 2025-26 academic session, MPBSE has introduced landmark changes under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 framework — most notably, the removal of the ‘Best of Five’ rule for Class 10 results and the announcement of board exams being conducted twice a year from the 2026-27 session onward. The 2025-26 main exams are currently underway, with Class 12 running from February 10 to March 7, 2026, and Class 10 from February 13 to March 6, 2026.
This comprehensive guide covers everything you need: the revised timetable, admit card details, full syllabus, exam pattern, passing criteria, grading system, result dates, and the most effective preparation strategies for MPBSE 2026.

MPBSE 2025-26 Key Updates and Changes
The 2025-26 academic session brings several important changes that every MP Board student must be aware of:
- Best of Five Rule Removed (Class 10): From 2026 onwards, MPBSE has eliminated the ‘Best of Five’ rule for Class 10. Previously, only the best five subject scores were counted for the final percentage. Now, all prescribed subjects are included, making consistent performance across all subjects essential.
- Board Exams Twice a Year (from 2026-27): MP Board has announced that board exams will be conducted twice a year starting from the 2026-27 academic session, in line with NEP 2020 recommendations. The first exam is mandatory; the second is optional for students wishing to improve marks in up to three subjects. The best score will be counted.
- Timetable Revised Twice: The original timetable released on August 13, 2025, was first revised on October 27, 2025, and revised again on January 9, 2026. Hindi paper dates for both Class 10 and 12 were rescheduled – Class 10 Hindi is now on March 6, 2026, and Class 12 Hindi on March 7, 2026.
- APAAR ID Voluntary for 2025-26: MPBSE has confirmed that the APAAR (Academic Bank of Credits) ID is NOT mandatory for the 2025-26 exam forms. It will be made compulsory from the next academic year.
- Over 18 Lakh Students Appearing: The MPBSE 2026 exams are among the largest board examinations in India, with over 8 lakh students expected for Class 12 and over 10 lakh for Class 10.

The Class 12 timetable covers Science, Commerce, Arts, and Agriculture streams in a unified schedule — subject dates depend on the student’s chosen stream and electives. Students must cross-check with their school and the official timetable PDF. Fine Arts papers have a different duration — approximately 2 hours rather than 3 hours.
MPBSE Practical Exams 2025-26 – Class 10 and Class 12
The MPBSE practical examinations for both Class 10 and Class 12 are scheduled between February 10 and March 10, 2026 — overlapping with the theory exam period. Students must manage their time carefully between theory preparation and practical assessments.

MPBSE Passing Marks and Grading System 2025-26
Understanding the minimum passing requirements is critical for every student. Here is the complete passing criteria for MPBSE Class 10 and Class 12:
Criteria | Requirement |
Minimum Marks in Each Subject | 33% (i.e., 33 out of 100 marks) |
Overall Aggregate | 33% across all subjects |
Theory Component Minimum | 33% of theory marks (e.g., min. 25 out of 75 for Class 10) |
Practical Component Minimum | 33% of practical marks (e.g., min. 9 out of 25 for Class 10) |
For Class 12 Science (70+30) | Min. 23 marks in theory (70) + min. 10 in practical (30) |
For Class 12 Other (80+20) | Min. 26 marks in theory (80) + min. 7 in practical (20) |
Both Components Mandatory | Cannot compensate theory fail with high practical marks |
Best of Five Rule | REMOVED from 2026 – all prescribed subjects count |
Supplementary Exam | Students failing in one or more subjects are eligible |
Grace Marks Policy | Available for 1-2 marks shortfall per subject in some cases |
MPBSE Grading System 2025-26
Percentage Range | Division / Grade |
75% and above | Distinction |
60% – 74.99% | First Division |
45% – 59.99% | Second Division |
33% – 44.99% | Third Division / Pass |
Below 33% | Fail |
Critical note for 2026 Class 10 students: Since the ‘Best of Five’ rule has been removed this year, students must ensure they perform adequately in ALL subjects. Failing or scoring poorly in any single subject will now directly affect the overall percentage calculation, unlike in previous years where the lowest-scoring subject could be excluded.
In 2025, the MPBSE Class 12 result was declared on May 6, 2025. The overall pass percentage for Class 12 was strong across all streams. The Class 10 result was declared along with Class 12. Over 3.27 lakh students registered for the second exam (supplementary) in 2025, demonstrating the board’s commitment to providing students with multiple opportunities.
MPBSE Result 2026 – Class 10th and 12th
The MPBSE Result 2026 for both Class 10 and Class 12 is expected to be declared in May 2026. Based on consistent patterns from previous years, the MP Board typically announces both Class 10 and Class 12 results together — as was done in 2025 when both results were released on May 6, 2025. Results are available online through multiple channels.

Additionally, students interested in improving their score can register for the second exam (to be introduced fully in 2026-27 session) within the specified application period.
MPBSE Class 10th and 12th 2025-26 – Expert Preparation Tips
With MPBSE theory exams currently underway (February 10 – March 7, 2026), the best preparation at this stage is focused, targeted revision. Here are eight strategies that the highest-scoring MP Board students consistently use:
1. Study the MPBSE Blueprint and Prioritise by Marks Weightage
The MPBSE subject-wise blueprint tells you exactly how many marks each chapter and unit carries. Download it from mpbse.nic.in. High-weightage chapters should receive proportionally more revision time. For instance, in Class 10 Science, the chapters on Electricity and Chemical Reactions typically carry the highest marks.
2. Remove the ‘Best of Five’ Mindset (Class 10 Students)
This is the most critical change for 2026. Since MPBSE has removed the Best of Five rule, you can no longer afford to write off any subject. Every subject now counts. Give equal attention to all subjects, including ones you may have neglected previously.
3. Master NCERT Textbooks First
For most subjects, NCERT textbooks are the primary and most reliable source. The vast majority of MPBSE questions — including application and analysis questions — can be answered from a thorough understanding of NCERT content. Supplement with MP Board-prescribed readers for Hindi, Sanskrit, and English literature.
4. Solve MPBSE Previous Year Question Papers (5+ Years)
Solving at least 5 years of MPBSE previous year papers for each subject is one of the most effective preparation strategies. It reveals the most consistently asked questions, typical long-answer topics, objective question patterns, and helps train your time management for the 3-hour exam duration. Previous year papers are available at mpbse.nic.in and major education portals.
5. Practice MPBSE Model Papers / Sample Papers 2025-26
MPBSE releases official model question papers (sample papers) for all subjects before the board exams. Practice these papers under strict exam conditions — 3 hours, no phone, no help. Compare your responses with model answers. This is the best way to simulate the actual board exam and identify weak areas with enough time to address them.
6. Focus Heavily on the Objective Section
The objective (MCQ/Fill in the blanks) section typically carries 30-40% of the theory marks in MPBSE papers. These marks are relatively fast to score and do not require lengthy writing. Practice objective questions from all chapters, focusing on definitions, formulas, dates, facts, and single-concept questions. Missing easy objective marks can cost students an entire division.
7. Prioritise Practical Exams and Lab Records
Practical marks for Class 12 (20-30 per subject) can significantly boost your final percentage. For Class 10, the 25-mark practical component is also important. Attend all practicals, maintain a clean and complete lab record or project file, learn standard experiments thoroughly, and prepare for common viva questions. Never miss a practical exam — absent students score zero in that component.
8. Manage Exam Day Discipline
On exam days, reach the centre by 8:00 AM — entry closes at 8:45 AM. Use the first 10-15 minutes to read the paper thoroughly before starting to write. Attempt objective questions first for quick marks, then move to long answers. Always attempt every question — partial marks are available. Use blue or black ink only. Keep your admit card, school ID, and stationery ready the night before every exam.
MPBSE Second Exam (Supplementary) 2026 – Class 10th and 12th
Under the NEP 2020 framework, MPBSE has revamped its approach to supplementary examinations, now calling them ‘Second Exams’. The aim is to give students who fail or underperform a genuine second chance within the same academic year, rather than making them wait an entire year.
Key Features of MPBSE Second Exam 2026
- Students who fail in one or more subjects in the main MPBSE 2026 exams are eligible
- Students who passed but want to improve their marks in up to three subjects can also appear
- The second exam syllabus, pattern, and passing criteria are identical to the main exam
- Students must apply online through the MPOnline portal within the stipulated period
- Separate application fees apply for the second exam registration
- The best score between the main exam and the second exam will be counted for the final result
Second Exam Event | Expected Date (2026) |
Main Result Declaration | May 2026 |
Second Exam Application Start | May 2026 |
Second Exam Application Deadline | May–June 2026 |
Second Exam Date (Class 10) | June 2026 |
Second Exam Date (Class 12) | June–July 2026 |
Second Exam Result | July–August 2026 |

Q2. When was the MPBSE timetable 2026 released, and has it been revised?
MPBSE first released the timetable on August 13, 2025. It was revised once on October 27, 2025, and revised for the final time on January 9, 2026. The most notable change in the final revision is the rescheduling of the Hindi paper – Class 10 Hindi is now on March 6, 2026, and Class 12 Hindi is on March 7, 2026. Students must only refer to the January 9, 2026 revised timetable as the final schedule.
Q3. When was the MPBSE Admit Card 2026 released, and how do students get it?
The MPBSE Admit Card 2026 was released on January 16, 2026 at mpbse.mponline.gov.in. Regular students receive their printed, signed, and stamped admit card from their school authorities. Private students can download it directly using their roll number or application number. An admit card is mandatory for entering the examination hall – students without it will not be allowed to appear for the exam.
Q4. What is the minimum passing marks for MPBSE Class 10 and 12 in 2026?
Students must score a minimum of 33% marks in each subject to pass MPBSE 2026. For Class 10, the theory paper is for 75 marks (minimum 25 marks needed) and the practical is for 25 marks (minimum 9 marks needed). For Class 12 Science subjects (70+30), students need minimum 23 marks in theory and 10 marks in practical. Both components must be passed separately.
Q5. What is the impact of removing the ‘Best of Five’ rule for MPBSE Class 10 in 2026?
From 2026, the MPBSE has removed the ‘Best of Five’ rule for Class 10. Previously, students could exclude their lowest-scoring subject from the percentage calculation. Now, all prescribed subjects are included. This means students must prepare thoroughly for every subject, as poor marks in any subject will now directly affect their overall percentage, division, and college admission eligibility.
Q6. When will the MPBSE Result 2026 be declared?
Based on previous year patterns, the MPBSE Class 10 and Class 12 results 2026 are expected to be declared in May 2026. In 2025, both results were released together on May 6, 2025. Students can check their results online at mpbse.nic.in and mpresults.nic.in using their roll number, or access the official digital marksheet through DigiLocker.
Q7. What are the new changes in MPBSE 2025-26 under NEP 2020?
MPBSE has introduced two major changes under NEP 2020 for the 2025-26 session: (1) The Best of Five rule for Class 10 has been permanently removed – all subjects now count for the final percentage. (2) Board exams will be conducted twice a year from the 2026-27 academic session onward. In the new system, the first exam is mandatory and the second is optional for improvement, with the best score being considered for the final result. Additionally, APAAR ID will become mandatory from the next session.
Conclusion
The MPBSE Class 10th and 12th 2025-26 examinations are a landmark session for over 18 lakh students across Madhya Pradesh, bringing significant changes that will shape the board’s assessment culture for years to come. With the Class 12 exams ending March 7, 2026, and the Class 10 exams concluding March 6, 2026, every remaining exam day is an opportunity to maximize your score.
Remember the two most critical changes this year: the Best of Five rule is gone for Class 10, so every subject matters, and the second exam system under NEP 2020 provides a genuine safety net for students who underperform. Focus on the revised timetable (especially the rescheduled Hindi papers), confirm your admit card details, and approach each remaining paper with a clear, well-prepared mindset.
