CGBSE Class 10th and 12th 2025-26: Everything You Need to Know

The Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education (CGBSE), headquartered in Raipur, is the apex authority for secondary and higher secondary education in Chhattisgarh. Established in 2002 after Chhattisgarh was carved out of Madhya Pradesh, CGBSE independently conducts examinations for High School (Class 10) and Higher Secondary (Class 12) students across all districts of the state. Every year, over 6 lakh students appear for the CG Board exams, making it one of the major state board examinations in central India.

For the 2025-26 academic session, CGBSE released the date sheet on November 21, 2025, well ahead of schedule. The Class 10 (High School Certificate) exams are currently being conducted from February 21 to March 13, 2026, while the Class 12 (Higher Secondary Certificate) exams run from February 20 to March 18, 2026. In a significant move, CGBSE has also introduced twice-yearly board examinations from 2024 onward — a landmark reform giving students a second chance in the same academic year.

This comprehensive guide covers everything you need: the complete timetable, admit card process, full syllabus for all streams, exam pattern, passing criteria, grading system, result dates, and expert preparation tips — all in one place.

CGBSE 2025-26 – Key Features and Notable Changes

The 2025-26 academic session brings forward several important features and recent reforms that every CG Board student must be aware of:

  • Exams Twice a Year (Since 2024): CGBSE introduced twice-yearly board examinations from 2024 onward. The main board exams are held in February–March every year. A second main exam is conducted in July–August for students who fail the first exam or wish to improve their scores. Both exams have the same syllabus, pattern, and passing criteria.
  • Early Timetable Release: CGBSE released the 2025-26 timetable on November 21, 2025, giving students approximately three months to prepare and plan. This is significantly earlier than many other state boards.
  • Earlier Exam Dates: Compared to the 2025 session (when Class 10 exams ran March 3–24, 2025 and Class 12 from March 1–28, 2025), the 2026 exams have been advanced by approximately 10–12 days, starting in February instead of March.
  • Practical Exams Completed Before Theory: All practical examinations were conducted between January 1 and January 20, 2026 — a full month before theory exams. This allows students to focus entirely on theory preparation leading up to the main exams.
  • Physical Training (PT) Certificate Exams: First and second year students appearing for the PT Certificate Examination have exams scheduled between February 20 and February 28, 2026, running parallel to the regular board exams.
  • Private/External Candidates: External (private) candidates appear for practical exams at designated examination centres. Practicals may be conducted on holidays within the January 1–20, 2026 window. Private candidates must stay in continuous contact with their assigned centre head.

Important notes for Class 10 timetable: The timetable contains sufficient inter-exam gaps between major subjects (Hindi, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science) to allow adequate revision time. Language paper dates and vocational subject dates are distributed evenly across the exam window. Students should download the official CGBSE Class 10 date sheet PDF from cgbse.nic.in and verify their specific subject codes. Private/external candidates should confirm exam centre details from the assigned centre head, as their timings may include specific reporting guidelines.

Stream-wise notes: Science stream students should particularly note the gap between Physics (Feb 20), Chemistry (Feb 24), Mathematics (Feb 25), and Biology (Feb 27) — providing crucial revision time between these high-weightage subjects. Commerce students have Business Studies on Feb 20, Accountancy on Feb 24, and Mathematics/Economics on Feb 25 and 27. Arts students have History (Feb 20), Political Science (Feb 24), Geography (Feb 25), and Sociology/Economics (Feb 27). All streams share the same Hindi and English compulsory paper dates.

Students must download the official CGBSE Class 12 date sheet PDF from cgbse.nic.in to verify exact subject codes and any last-minute updates, as minor adjustments may occasionally be made for specific elective subjects.

CGBSE Practical Exams 2025-26 – Class 10th and 12th

All practical examinations for both CGBSE Class 10 and Class 12 were conducted between January 1 and January 20, 2026 — completing a full month before the theory exams began. This structure gives students the advantage of completing their practical marks early and then focusing entirely on theory preparation.

Class 10 Subjects with Practical Components

  • Science: Lab experiments covering Physics, Chemistry, and Biology practicals
  • Computer Science / Information Technology (NSQF): Computer-based practicals
  • Home Economics: Practical cooking and home management assessments
  • Painting and Fine Arts: Portfolio and live assessment
  • Music: Vocal/instrumental performance-based evaluation
  • Physical Education (NSQF): Fitness and sports performance tests

Class 12 Subjects with Practical Components

  • Physics (Science): Lab experiments including optics, electricity, and modern physics
  • Chemistry (Science): Qualitative analysis, titrations, and organic chemistry experiments
  • Biology (Science): Dissection, slide preparation, microscopy, and field experiments
  • Computer Science / Informatics Practices: Programming lab and practical file
  • Psychology: Case studies, survey analysis, and experiment-based practicals
  • Home Science (Arts): Nutrition projects, child development observation, practical file
  • Geography: Map-based practicals and field work
  • Drawing / Painting / Fine Arts: Portfolio submissions and live drawing assessment
  • Agriculture: Field-based experiments and practical records

Private/external candidates had their practical exams conducted at their designated examination centres. These practicals could also be held on holidays within the January 1–20, 2026 period. External students were required to stay in close contact with their centre head to confirm exact dates, timings, and any special instructions. Students who missed practicals without valid reason are awarded zero marks in that component, with no provision for re-examination except in exceptional board-approved cases.

Practical marks are added to theory scores to calculate the final CGBSE result. Missing or performing poorly in practicals can significantly impact the final percentage and division. It is strongly recommended that students preserve copies of their practical records and project files, as they may be required during re-evaluation or in case of score disputes.

CGBSE Admit Card 2026 – Class 10th and 12th

The CGBSE Admit Card 2026 for both Class 10 and Class 12 is distributed through the respective schools and examination centres. The admit card is a mandatory document — entry to the examination hall is strictly denied without it.

How Regular Students Get the CGBSE Admit Card 2026

  • Step 1: School authorities log in to the official CGBSE portal at cgbse.nic.in using school credentials
  • Step 2: They download the batch admit cards for all registered regular students
  • Step 3: The school principal or examination coordinator prints, stamps, and signs each admit card
  • Step 4: Signed admit cards are distributed to students before the examination dates
  • Step 5: Students must collect their signed admit card from school well before the first exam date

How Private/External Students Get the CGBSE Admit Card 2026

  • Step 1: Visit the official CGBSE website at cgbse.nic.in
  • Step 2: Navigate to the ‘Admit Card / Hall Ticket’ section under the Examination tab
  • Step 3: Enter your Roll Number or Registration Number along with required credentials
  • Step 4: The CGBSE admit card will appear on the screen
  • Step 5: Download and save the PDF

Critical reminder: A soft copy, photocopy, or screenshot of the admit card on a mobile phone is NOT accepted at the examination hall. Students must carry a hard copy (printed on paper) of their CGBSE admit card to every exam day — both theory and practical. If any error is found on the admit card (wrong photograph, incorrect name, subject mismatch, wrong date of birth), students must immediately bring it to the attention of their school authorities, who will then report the discrepancy to CGBSE for correction before the exam date.

Blueprint-based preparation: CGBSE releases subject-wise blueprints for both Class 10 and Class 12 that show the unit-wise marks distribution. Students must download the CGBSE blueprint for their subjects from cgbse.nic.in and base their preparation on it. High-weightage units must receive proportionally more study time. The blueprint for Class 12 Science subjects, for example, clearly identifies which chapters carry 4-5 mark questions versus 2-mark questions.

Re-evaluation / Rechecking: Students not satisfied with their CGBSE result can apply for re-evaluation (scrutiny) through the official CGBSE website. The re-evaluation application window opens within 15 days of the result declaration and remains open for approximately 15 days. This is a paid service — students must pay the re-evaluation fee as specified on the portal. Results of re-evaluation are typically announced within 30–45 days. Students must collect their original marksheets from their schools after the result declaration — the online result is a provisional marksheet only.

CGBSE Second Main Exam 2026 – Class 10th and 12th

One of the most significant reforms CGBSE has introduced since 2024 is the twice-yearly board examination system. This gives every student two chances to pass or improve within the same academic year — eliminating the year-long wait that was previously necessary for failed students.

Key Features of CGBSE Second Main Exam

  • All students who fail in the first main exam (February–March 2026) are automatically eligible for the second main exam
  • Students who passed but want to improve their marks in any subject can also register for the second exam
  • The syllabus, exam pattern, question types, marking scheme, and passing criteria are identical to the first main exam
  • The second exam is conducted in July–August — approximately 2–3 months after the first exam result
  • The best score obtained in either the first or second main exam is considered for the final result
  • A separate application and fee payment is required for the second main exam through the CGBSE portal

CGBSE Class 10th and 12th 2025-26 – Expert Preparation Tips

With CGBSE Class 10 exams running until March 13, 2026 and Class 12 until March 18, 2026, every remaining exam day is an opportunity. Here are eight evidence-based preparation strategies used by top-performing CG Board students:

1. Start with the CGBSE Blueprint – Your Preparation Roadmap

Before studying a single chapter, download the CGBSE subject-wise blueprint from cgbse.nic.in. The blueprint tells you exactly how many marks each chapter and unit carries. High-weightage chapters deserve proportionally more time. For example, in Class 12 Physics, chapters like Electrostatics, Optics, and Semiconductor Electronics typically carry the most marks.

2. Use NCERT Textbooks as Your Foundation

CGBSE follows the NCERT curriculum for most subjects. NCERT textbooks for Science, Mathematics, Social Science, History, Political Science, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics are the primary and most reliable preparation resources. Read each chapter thoroughly — including NCERT examples, exercises, and ‘in-text’ questions. For Hindi and Sanskrit, use the CGBSE-prescribed Kshitij, Kritika, and Shemushi books.

3. Solve CGBSE Previous Year Papers (Minimum 5 Years)

Solving five or more years of CGBSE previous year papers is the single most effective preparation strategy. It reveals consistently repeated topics, the structure of long-answer questions, the difficulty level of objective questions, and helps you build time management skills within the 3-hour duration. Previous year papers for CGBSE are available at cgbse.nic.in and major educational portals.

4. Practice CGBSE Model Papers and Sample Papers 2025-26

CGBSE releases official model question papers (sample papers) for all subjects. Practice each model paper under real exam conditions: sit for exactly 3 hours, no distractions, blue or black pen only. After completing the test, compare your answers with the model answer key. This simulation builds exam confidence, identifies knowledge gaps, and acclimates you to the actual question format.

5. Focus on the Objective Question Section

The objective (MCQ / fill in the blanks / one-word answer) section carries approximately 30-40% of the theory marks in CGBSE papers. These are the fastest marks to score and do not require lengthy writing. Practise objective questions from all chapters consistently. Focus on definitions, formulas, dates, factual statements, and single-concept questions. Neglecting this section is one of the most common reasons students miss higher divisions.

6. Prioritise Inter-Exam Revision Windows

CGBSE has built sufficient gaps between major subject exams. Use these gaps purposefully. For example, the gap between Science (February 28) and Social Science (March 3) for Class 10 should be devoted entirely to Social Science revision. For Class 12, the gap between Chemistry (February 24) and Mathematics (February 25) is short — so pre-prepare notes for Mathematics before Chemistry day. Plan each gap day in advance.

7. Create Subject-wise Short Revision Notes

Maintain a dedicated notebook with concise chapter-wise notes — key formulas for Mathematics and Physics, reactions for Chemistry, diagrams for Biology, dates and events for History, key concepts for Political Science and Sociology. These condensed notes become your primary revision tool in the final days before each paper. Revising from a 2-page note sheet is far more effective than re-reading an entire chapter.

8. Follow All CGBSE Exam Day Guidelines

Reach the exam centre by 9:00 AM — answer sheets are distributed at 9:05 AM and question paper reading begins at 9:10 AM. Carry your printed, signed admit card and school ID to every exam. Use only blue or black ballpoint pens. Mobile phones, calculators, smartwatches, and electronic devices are strictly prohibited — they will be confiscated. Read the entire question paper during the reading time (9:10–9:15 AM) before starting to write. Attempt confident questions first, then more difficult ones. Never leave any question entirely blank.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – CGBSE Class 10th and 12th 2025-26

Q3. How can students download the CGBSE admit card 2026?

Regular students cannot download the CGBSE admit card individually — it is distributed through schools. School authorities log in to cgbse.nic.in, download the batch admit cards, sign and stamp them, and distribute them to students. Private/external candidates can download the admit card directly from cgbse.nic.in using their roll number or registration number. The admit card is mandatory for entry to the examination hall — a soft copy or photocopy is not accepted.

Q4. What is the minimum passing marks for CGBSE Class 10 and 12 in 2026?

Students must score a minimum of 33% marks in each subject and 33% in the overall aggregate to pass CGBSE 2026. For subjects with a practical component, students must separately score 33% in the theory paper and 33% in the practical exam. Both components must be passed independently — high marks in one component cannot compensate for a fail in the other.

Q5. Are CGBSE board exams conducted twice a year?

Yes. Since 2024, CGBSE conducts board exams twice a year. The first main exam is held in February–March (the primary session). The second main exam is conducted in July–August for students who fail the first exam or wish to improve their marks. The best score from either attempt is counted for the final result. In 2025, the second exam result was declared on August 19, 2025.

Q6. When will the CGBSE Result 2026 be declared?

The CGBSE Class 10 and Class 12 results 2026 are expected to be declared in May 2026. In 2025, both results were declared together on May 7, 2025 at 3:00 PM. The CGBSE Class 10th and 12th 2025-26 board examinations represent a critical milestone for over 6 lakh students across Chhattisgarh. With Class 12 exams ending on March 18, 2026 and Class 10 wrapping up on March 13, 2026, every remaining exam day counts. The board’s twice-yearly examination system provides a valuable second chance in July–August 2026 for students who need it.

For maximum success: base your preparation on the official CGBSE syllabus and blueprint, solve previous year papers religiously, practise model papers under real exam conditions, focus on the objective question section for quick marks, and use every inter-exam gap strategically. Arrive at the exam centre on time, carry your printed admit card, and approach each paper with calm confidence.
